United Rentals has reported fourth quarter 2011 revenues of $746m and rental revenue of $589m, compared with $597m and $497m, respectively, for 2010.

For the full year 2011, total revenues were $2.6bn and rental revenue was $2.2bn, compared with $2.2bn and $1.8bn, respectively, for 2010.

For the fourth quarter 2011, the company reported income from continuing operations of $28m, compared with a loss of $17m, for the same period in 2010. For the full year 2011, income from continuing operations totalled $101m, compared with a loss of $22m for 2010.

Rental revenue increased 18.5% for the fourth quarter 2011, compared with the fourth quarter of the prior year, reflecting year-over-year increases of 6.7% in rental rates and 15.1% in the volume of equipment on rent. For the full year, rental rates increased 6.1% from 2010.
