Asset Based finance in the UK is set to grow by 9% in 2012, according to a new survey from the Asset Based Finance Association (ABFA). Total funding provided by the industry to UK and Ireland firms is forecast to reach £17.2bn in 2012.

Porsche Finance Group has just announced that during Q1 2012 it wrote 1,000 new finance agreements in the Ukraine. The three franchises, Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche together increased new finance business from 5,000 to 6,000 contracts. By comparison in Q1 2011 the company concluded a total of 372 contracts.

As the Great Recession begins to recede asset lenders and lessors are briefed to expand their portfolios once more. However, the lessons of the downturn are still raw – and caution is required when building new business books.
The 2012 ELFA Credit & Collections Management Conference, to be held in Baltimore from 3-5 June, seeks to guide lenders on the way forward. As an example, in one innovative workshop delegates are invited to review a range of middle- to large-ticket transactions involving “varying amounts of complexity of credit quality, transaction structure and documentation”.
