As the global leasing industry emerges tentatively from the recession so its priorities are changing. Whereas Back-end activities like maximising collections and realising end-of-lease values have been top priority – these are now accompanied by a renewed quest to build volumes.
The caveat, of course, is that today’s new business volumes must be accompanied by improved margins and cost efficiencies. This is where technology innovations should play a leading part.

Peter Kainradl, managing director of White Clarke Europe, confirmed that front-end requirements for lenders have changed since the recession began.
“As the need for new business growth emerges more strongly,” he explained, “so the requirements of front-end systems are moving on. Whereas previously it might have been enough for a lender to offer a customer a quotation and then forget about any further contact, this is clearly no longer sufficient.”

CD Auction group is an online vehicle auction company which serves the fleet leasing sector and was established some 21 years ago. When fleet vehicles reach the end of their lease terms it is paramount that the lessor realises their residual value as quickly as possible. This means a rapid return to market – with wear and tear estimated and remedied as cost efficiently and speedily as possible.
Initially based on a sealed-bid auction system, as CD Auction’s vendor profile grew so did their requirements. Roger Woodward, CD Auction group managing director explains that the company developed various systems and services to accommodate them. “Initially,” he said, “these were physical systems such as logistics and vehicle refurbishment to provide a full fleet management and re-marketing process.”

Tony Langford is head of sales at NetSol Technologies Europe. He told Asset Finance International that there are essentially two kinds of Front-end systems. “Firstly, those that are internally focused, supporting lessor users either office based on in the field; and secondly those that are used externally by business originators or other third party business partners.”
“As a front- to back-office technology provider we know how critical it is that our Front-end systems are truly to be geared to the business of our clients. Not just in functionality terms, but system usability and aesthetic design are high priorities too. The investment we make in providing an efficient and appealing user experience is considerable. But the truth is, having designed, built and implemented such systems, we know that the best system of all is the one that business introducers don't see at all, it's the invisible electronic data interchange (EDI) approach that really is the game changer.”
