Ford of Britain has launched a direct-to-customer online sales channel.

Users of the site can set a budget, obtain a part exchange value, review and choose cars, then arrange finance online and order. Consumers can select delivery either from a local dealership or direct to a location of their choice.

Andy Barratt, chairman and managing director of Ford of Britain, announced the launch on LinkedIn, saying: “[This is] a really significant day at Ford of Britain, as we launch our direct to customer online sales channel, allowing customers to purchase direct from Ford.”

He added: “It’s day 1, so much more of our range to be added...”

Ford said the launch was “low-key” and that it would be analysing the volume of initial interest. A formal launch is planned for later in the month.

Ford is the latest manufacturer to respond to growing interest in online sales among consumers.

Earlier this year, Volvo announced it was partnering with Amazon in the UK to trial online test drive booking, with cars delivered directly to customers at home or work.

Jaguar Land Rover sells new cars online, through a partnership with digital sales specialist Rockar.

Mitsubishi Motors has also partnered with Rockar to launch an online sales programme.

Rockar also ran a digital sales programme for Hyundai, but this was handed back to the manufacturer earlier this year and is now operated by the Motorline dealer group.

Motorline will continue to use Rockar’s platform and Rockar will be providing consultancy.
