Zipcar VW

Zipcar, the UK car club, has rolled out a fleet of 300 petrol Volkswagen Polos across London as part of its Flex one-way, drive and drop service.

The Flex service lets customers drive to a destination on a one-way trip without needing to return the car to the pick-up location. Customers have to park in an approved Zipzone parking bay covering the Wandsworth, Merton, South Lambeth and most of Southwark area.

Members can also still use Zipcar in the same way as before too, where a customer picks up and drops off in the same location.

Zipcar is priced from 29p a minute and membership is currently free. Zipcar’s Basic plan usually has a one-off joining fee of £19 which is currently discounted to £0.

Jonathan Hampson, Zipcar UK general manager, said: “Flex marks the next stage in Londoners’ already-changing relationship with cars and moves us one step further towards our vision of a city where car sharers outnumber car owners.

“We believe that the freedom to be able to do any kind of trip, where you need a car without having to own one, has the power to fundamentally redefine urban mobility in the kind of sustainable way that will allow London to continue to grow and thrive.”
