Katajamaki tiia

Technology lifecycle management service provider 3stepIT has appointed Tiia Katajamäki to the newly created role of senior manager, sustainability, with a remit to focus on the zero carbon and zero waste agenda.

Reporting to the chief operations officer, Katajamäki will help deliver on 3stepIT’s ambition to be a world leader in sustainability, working with its customers to eliminate electronic waste by ensuring business-critical technology is managed efficiently and responsibly.

She will also be responsible for overseeing 3stepIT’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy, ‘Go Circular’, which is due to be released publicly later this year. An economist by trade, Katajamäki has more than 12 years’ experience working in data management and business development, with a focus on sustainability, cleantech and circular solutions. Based in Helsinki, Katajamäki previously worked as the Sustainability Development Manager at TietoEVRY, where she was responsible for the digital services company’s global energy roadmap and supply chain CR management. Prior to this, she held senior sustainability roles at the City of Helsinki, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and Nokia.

3stepIT CEO, Carmen Ene, said: “We take our responsibility to minimise our impact very seriously and the whole team works tirelessly to eliminate waste in every form across our operations. But by far the most significant contribution we can make to the fight against global warming is to help more businesses to adopt the principles circular economy and consume technology in a greener way. “Every business that adopts our technology lifecycle management solution represents an office-full of laptops, mobiles and tablets that will not end up in landfill – a win for our customers and for the planet. “Tiia is charged with leading our efforts to offer market leading sustainability solutions for our customers, while also ensuring we hold ourselves to the highest possible standards. Her experience in this field is unrivalled, and she will be a fantastic addition to our team.”

Tiia Katajamäki, said: “It is rare to work for a company with not only a laser focus on reducing its footprint, but also an incredible ability to make a positive impact, by enabling customers to reduce their carbon emissions and eliminate electronic waste. “There is a huge opportunity for us to support more businesses towards carbon neutrality, as many companies are still just beginning to look at technology consumption as a way to reach their sustainability goals. The circular economy also represents a huge opportunity for both businesses and society and it’s exciting to work for a company, widely recognised as a leader in this field.”

Last year, 3stepIT reported it prevented more than half a million IT devices from reaching landfill, with thousands of customers adopting its technology lifecycle management solution worldwide. Its work was recognised by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, which awarded the company an almost perfect score (Grade A) in its inaugural assessment rating companies on circular economy progress.
